Meeting point: Tump 53 Nature Reserve | Location

This Thamesmead Nature Forum meeting will be hosted by environmental charity Thames21.

The meeting will start at Tump 53 Nature Reserve where Tyler will lead the group on a short walk to the canal at Butts Wood. Along the way we’ll talk about the impact of floating pennywort (an invasive species of plant) on the local ecosystem, and about plans to limit its growth using insects in certain areas of the canal.

In future, Thames21 will be idendtifying engagement opportunities that will take place over the next year across Thamesmead. These activities will be linked to a new floating pennywort project aimed at combatting this invasive species in Thamesmead’s canals. This initiative is funded by Peabody and the Environment Agency, and aims to slow down the rapid spread of pennywort, which threatens local ecosystems and increases flood risks.
