Floating reed beds

Floating reed beds create habitat for local wildlife to thrive. Working in partnership with the Environmental Agency, Thames21 and local volunteers, we have installed new floating reed beds in the canals near Thamesmead Town Centre, Birchmere Lake and Harrow Canal.

The reedbeds are home to flowering plants like loosestrife and flag iris, which help provide colour, nectar and shelter for birds and local wildlife. They also improve the water quality by filtering out any impurities.

Together with Thames21, we are installing new floating reed beds in Gallions Lake.
