Thamesmead Open
Launched in 2020, the Thamesmead Open was an ambitious, open call, international art competition.
The Thamesmead Open helped to establish the area as a cultural destination and innovator. The competition coincided with the publication of our Cultural Infrastructure Plan for Thamesmead, the first to be published in London.
The winners of the Thamesmead Open were artists, musson+retallick, with Fields of EveryWhen. The 25 metre-high hot-air balloon showcased over 200 artworks inspired by the people and places of Thamesmead. These artworks were created for the project by local residents, artists, and community groups.
