Greenwich+Docklands International Festival: Nature Speaks

Tump 53 Nature Reserve will host two immersive, open-air artworks for Nature Speaks, part of the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival (GDIF).
The two pieces – I Have No Name and Canopy – both focus on conversations between people and the natural world. That makes them well-suited for installation in the former Royal Arsenal munitions store on Water Lily Walk, which is now a secluded beauty spot and haven for wildlife.
I Have No Name by Catalonia’s El Conde de Torrefiel features a large LED screen translating what nature has to say to us – and how it sees us. Expect intimate and prophetic words from this oracle-like display board.
The second installation, Canopy by Lorna Rees, celebrates the relationships between humans and trees. Visitors will explore a forest of suspended seed pods containing audio stories and songs inspired by nearby trees. More than 500 people, including ecologists, artists, musicians, writers and young people, helped to develop the artwork.
There have been spectacular GDIF installations and performances in Thamesmead every year since 2018.
"The Greenwich+Docklands International Festival events are always a highlight of the cultural calendar in Thamesmead,” said Lisa Drew, Peabody’s Senior Cultural Programme Manager. “We’re excited for local people to explore the nature on their doorstep and experience the installations planned for Tump 53.”
