Creating a Thamesmead Tapestry
17:00PM-19:00PM
Lakeside Centre, Bazalgette Way, London, SE2 9AN
Turn a meaningful object from your living room into part of an inspiring Thamesmead Tapestry.
Artist Marcus Orlandi is leading a series free workshops, including this one, introducing participants to the basics of appliqué. This is a needlework technique used to create illustrations using fabric.
You will use your new skills to turn an object that means something to you into an appliqué patch, which will be combined with other patches to create a tapestry. The Thamesmead Tapestry will be exhibited in June as part of the London Festival of Architecture.
This textile project is inspired by Ghanaian Asafo flags, which are made to celebrate identify, history and community pride.
You don't need any drawing or textile skills, and all materials will be provided. Just bring the object with personal significance and the story behind it.
