The first in a series of eight workshops where you can create a handmade fabric banner using your favourite literary quote that will then go on public display at The Nest library.
Quotes can be from your favourite book, song, poem, play or famous speech. All quotes need to be attributable to a writer (no made up quotes or "anonymous" quotes), and no longer than 15 words. Due to the public nature of the artworks all texts will need to be cleared by myself and the library team before design begins.
All materials will be provided, and the banners will be made using applique and hand sewing techniques. Sessions will be guided by artist and writer Marcus Orlandi.
Ideally participants will be able to commit to around four sessions to allow time to finish your banners and ready them for display.
This first workshop will be an introductory session where everybody will get to know each other, talk about your chosen quotes and develop your initial designs.
