Get closer to nature at Tump 53

Young people are being invited to swap the classroom for the great outdoors at Tump 53 – a hidden nature reserve just off Water Lily Walk.

With the final half-term of the academic year fast approaching and the summer holidays to follow, schools and community groups can book sessions to visit the beauty spot. Children get the chance to explore habitats, discover wildlife and learn hands-on skills while surrounded by nature.

Whether it’s pond-dipping to see what’s living beneath the surface, building shelters to protect against the elements or safely learning how to light a fire, the activities spark curiosity and build confidence. It’s a chance for children to get muddy, ask questions and experience the natural world up close.

Tump 53 offers both two-hour and full-day sessions, making it easy for teachers and group leaders to plan a visit that fits their timetable.

Tucked within Thamesmead’s network of green spaces, the reserve provides a calm, outdoor setting where young people can slow down, explore and connect with the environment.

Schools and community groups interested in booking can email tump53@peabody.org.uk for more information.
