The sessions were delivered by Peabody in partnership with PTP Coaching who will be hosting a second swimming event on Saturday 13 August.
It forms part of Peabody’s long-term Thamesmead regeneration – part of which focusses on realising the full potential of Thamesmead’s lakes and canals.
Swimmers aged 16 and over are invited to take a dip in the lake, giving them a rare opportunity to enjoy a refreshing outdoor swim.
Jack Gower, Landscape Activation Manager for Thamesmead at Peabody, says: “It’s been great to see so many people in the water at Birchmere Lake. Thamesmead is home to lots of incredible blue and green spaces, and a big part of the work we’re doing locally is about finding different ways for people to take advantage of the vastness of the landscape on their doorstep.
"Providing opportunities for supervised swimming in Birchmere Lake is a great example of how we're working to bring people closer to nature to help support their overall health and wellbeing. We look forward to organising more sessions for people to enjoy in future."
