Thamesmead artists recruit community choir for hometown anthem

After a successful debut performance at Thamesmead Festival 2024, Crossness Records is proud to present celebratory anthem ‘Hometown Pride’ on Valentine’s Day.

This single is spearheaded and written by local rapper, singer-songwriter, and aspiring author Jules, jazz vocalist J Cocoa, actor/performer Jamie Zubairi and local multifaceted artist/producer Kei.

They have joined forces with a community choir led by J Cocoa and Jamie for the ultimate collaboration. Also on board is videographer Riordan Tyson who is documenting the journey and local independent label Crossness Records.

Hometown Pride is performed by the Thamesmead Community Choir, made up of 15 vocalists alongside the four songwriters. It is a true representation of Thamesmead, captured through lyrical storytelling, luscious vocals and catchy melodies over Afrobeats-led production. These have been melded together to create an upbeat, uplifting timeless classic.

As Jules says, “Thamesmead has given me so much - so this anthem dedicated to the place we live and I grew up in allows us all to give something back to the town and its people, of whom we are so proud.”

The Thamesmead Choir has been previously featured on ITV London, BBC Radio London (Jumoke Fashola) as well as local news outlets News Shopper.

The Thamesmead Anthem project was funded by Arts Council England as part of Peabody’s town-wide cultural programme.
