Peabody colleagues help deliver brilliant Bexley Boxes

Thamesmead residents are staying warm and well this winter, thanks to a new Bexley council initiative, supported by Peabody.

The council launched ‘Bexley Boxes’ back in November to provide some of the borough’s housebound adults with boxes filled with donated items to keep them warm and healthy throughout the colder months.

Thousands of donations have been received and the boxes have now started to be distributed. To support the project, Peabody has been helping to deliver some of the boxes to residents living in Thamesmead, using its fleet of electric vehicles.

Tom Broad, Head of Environmental Services at Peabody, whose team helped deliver the boxes, said: “Winter is a challenging time for many, and so it’s been great to support this initiative for housebound residents. Hand-delivering these boxes and seeing the positive impact they’re having on people has been very rewarding for our team.

“It’s one of the many ways we’re supporting communities across Thamesmead as part of our ongoing regeneration of the town.”

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, took to social media to thank Peabody and other supporting organisations saying: “More Bexley Boxes on their way to grateful residents – thank you Peabody, Orbit, Carers Support & CSR”.

A message was also published on the Bexley website where Cllr Baroness O’Neill further thanked donors and volunteers for their contributions.

If you haven’t donated already and you’d like to, there’s still time. Bexley are accepting donations up to, and including, Monday 6 January 2025.

Please email BexleyBox@bexley.gov.uk if you would like to donate, or if you know a housebound elderly resident who would benefit from a box.
