Say hello to the new Thamesmead Festival Production Group

We’re pleased to introduce the new Festival Production Group who will be planning the 2024 Thamesmead Festival!

They each responded to a 2023 open call to join the FPG, and will now be seeking out local talent, showcasing community groups, and planning a fun event that everyone to enjoy.

Last year’s festival attracted more than 8,000 visitors and featured more than 40 incredible performers across four stages.

The new FPG recently met for the first time where they reflected on why the festival is important for Thamesmead and what they want to achieve with this year’s event. They spoke about how the event brings people together, creates a sense of community, brings joy, hope and inspiration to local people. They discussed their ambitions for Thamesmead, how they want to show people what a great place it is to live in, and celebrate the diverse talents from the area.

Local businesses also play an important part the festival. From food traders to craft businesses and lots in between, people get to support small businesses and local entrepreneurs. Many of the FPG members spoke about their sense of responsibility and wanting to give back to a community that they’ve grown up in. To them, the festival is much more than just a one-day event – it tells the story of a proud and creative place.

If you’d like to take part in the Thamesmead Festival on Saturday 10 August 2024, please email thamesmeadnow@peabody.org.uk. You can also follow us on social media for details of an open call which will be announced later this year.

The FPG members are: Adedapo Dally, Amanda Eatwell, Beth Adibaba, Caron Schersmith-Meikle, Christine Mitchell, Deborah Frimpong, Ian Tyson, Jamie Zubairi, Jerusha Ujanga, Joanne Bernard, Julia Hien, Marcus Orlandi, Riordan Tyson, Samuel Asare.
