Residents Standing Next To Litter Bin

130+ new bins installed across Thamesmead

Thamesmead is tackling litter, with more than 130 new bins installed as part of a community led investment project from Peabody.

Residents, through groups like the Nature Forum and Tidy Thamesmead, highlighted the need for more litter and dog waste bins in the town, especially in the parks and open spaces.

Peabody’s grounds maintenance team has now installed 110 bins across Southmere, Crossways, Gallions and Birchmere Park and 29 recycling bins as a trial scheme with West Thamesmead Community Association (WTCA). WTCA said: “We’ve been delighted by the response of the Peabody team to our ideas for launching a bins campaign to address the litter and waste in our green spaces.”

The group has also created videos with children from the area to help neighbours understand what goes in the recycling bins.

There’s been lots of positive feedback on the scheme and we’re now purchasing more bins. If you have suggestions for locations, please add them to the map here.
