We also offer a range of opportunities for parents and carers to develop new skills, gain support and help us to shape future activities in the area.

Current activities include:

Reading from the start

We’re working with Greenwich Leisure Limited and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to encourage a love of reading in children under five years old. When you sign up, your children will receive a free book each month and you’ll be invited to visit our reading corners to join fun family activities.  To qualify for free books, you must be a Peabody resident and live in Thamesmead.

Reading sessions are every Friday between 9.30-11am beginning on 4 February 2022 at Waterways Children Centre, Southwood Road, Thamesmead, SE28 8EZ.

This programme is generously supported with funding from VINCI Facilities.

School holiday activities

During the school holidays we support fun, engaging activities for children which promote physical activity, play and tackle holiday hunger. We also work in partnership with local organisations to promote safe spaces for children with physical disabilities and special educational needs.

Parenting support

Peabody regularly provides opportunities for family members to increase their employment potential and gain confidence and skills through training.

Advice in schools

Launching in January 2022, Advice in Schools Thamesmead is a programme of free specialist advice where family members can speak to a trained volunteer face-to-face or on the phone at their child’s school. This offer is currently available at Windrush Primary School and Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls. Family members will be able to gain support on topics including debt and money management, energy, housing, immigration and more. We can then help you to access further support that works for you.

Parent’s forum

The Parent’s Forum is an opportunity for Thamesmead residents to find out about what is happening locally and to help us shape activities which really matter to the community. As a member, you’ll meet other parents, develop ideas and work with us to plan exciting projects.

“This Parent’s Forum has helped me to meet other parents in Thamesmead that I wouldn’t otherwise know. The WhatsApp group is so supportive and comforting. It’s what’s needed in Thamesmead.” -Parent Forum member
