Beuys' Acorns: The Seventh Oak
17:30PM-18:00PM
Crossway Park, SE28 8NG
Get involved in an atmospheric community gathering for the completion of Thamesmead’s new oak circle.
See the culmination of renowned artists Ackroyd & Harvey’s project to bring a circle of oaks to Thamesmead when the final oak is planted.
The ceremonial planting of the seventh oak is part of the London Borough of Bexley’s Night Visions festival. Expect an atmospheric evening with the new oaks beautifully illuminated, creative activities available and the Thamesmead Community Choir performing.
Six oaks were planted in Crossway Park at the start of December 2025. The seventh oak will be planted during this event to complete the circle and Ackroyd & Harvey’s artwork.
The trees were all grown from acorns collected by artists Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey. They were gathered from of the 7,000 oak trees planted by artist and environmental activist Joseph Beuys in Germany in 1982.
The oaks are planted in a circle to make Crossway Park a gathering place for discussions about the climate and other important issues.
“Our project looks at planting trees within urban environments,” said Heather and Dan. “It’s not just about the climate-proofing they will provide but making sure the community in Thamesmead benefits too from creative interactions with ecology at the centre.”
Wrap up warm and come along to play your part in this community event.
