'Beuys' Film Screening and Ackroyd & Harvey in Conversation

Wednesday 21 January
18:30PM-22:00PM
The Nest, Cygnet Square, SE9 2FA

Enjoy a rare screening of filmmaker Andres Veiel's documentary Beuys to celebrate the planting of a new circle of seven oak trees in Thamesmead.

The film explores the life and work of German artist and environmental activist Joseph Beuys. He planted 7,000 oak trees in the city of Kassel in the 1980s for his project 7000 Oaks.

Beuys' work inspired influential artistic duo Ackroyd and Harvey's project Beuys’ Acorns. The oaks in Crossway Park were grown from acorns collected by Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey from trees originally planted by Beuys in Kassel.

With the Thamesmead oak circle being completed at a ceremonial planting on 29 January, the film screening is an opportunity to find out more about the inspiration behind the project.

There will be a post-screening conversation with Heather and Dan, hosted by Nicolas Ehler, Director of the Goethe-Institut London.

"It's a really good film," said Dan. "It's a rare opportunity to see it because it's not available publicly."

Drinks will be served from 6pm, with the screening starting at 7pm.

Film running time: 117 mins. In German with English subtitles
