This is an unprecedented and critical time for London’s economy at night.  The impact of coronavirus is putting the diverse and vibrant London we all love at risk.

I encourage everyone to stay safe and follow government guidance.  The Mayor and I recognise the frustrations and concerns that night time businesses and workers will be experiencing. Many businesses have found themselves in the difficult position of having to close. These are some of London’s most well-loved and irreplaceable places and spaces – they make London the best city in the world at night.

The Government has published a factsheet on its GOV.UK pages about the new financial measures announced on Tuesday, which includes information for individuals, businesses and the self-employed. Relief measures will go some way to help Londoners.  But there is more to be done.

With 1.6 million night workers in London, the Mayor is seeking reassurance from Government that all employees, workers and the self -employed will be fully supported and protected. City Hall has dedicated Covid-19 support and information for all businesses and employers in London, and I urge you to access this via www.growthhub.london. Factsheets and links to external support are being added daily. You can also book a Skype call with our business advisors.

Today Transport for London announced Covid-19 support for small and medium sized businesses on their estate- 100% rent relief starting from 25th March for 3 months, and 100% rent relief for tenants in any closed London Underground station.  This offers vital help for a number of vulnerable night time businesses.

The Mayor and I stand in solidarity with London’s night time workers, night time businesses and those who are keeping essential services running around the clock.  We will be working hard to share information, resources and support. We will also continue to strongly and clearly advocate for London’s world leading night time economy.
