Thamesmead is unusual within London in having an extensive 20th century planned landscape. It is one of the strongest remnants of the towns original Greater London Council (GLC) led masterplan and their planning for a new town within London in the 1960s.
Today one of Thamesmead's most loved features is its extensive landscape of parks and waterways including 5 lakes, 7km canals and over 150ha of green space – together these contribute to make Thamesmead unique.
Peabody is intent on improving the quality of Thamesmead's landscape and making it fit for the future.
