Open invitation to Fields of EveryWhen – a floating exhibition

Members of the Thamesmead community who have been working with artists musson+retallick – winners of the Thamesmead Open international art competition – are to see their artwork rise into the sky for the first time on 15 August.

The 25 metre-high hot-air balloon showcases over 200 artworks inspired by the people and places of Thamesmead and created for the project by local residents, artists, and community groups.

To mark the occasion, we are hosting a special event for the community – with live music, food and drink. Everyone is invited!

Date: Monday 15 August 2022

Time: 6.30pm to 9.30pm

Venue: Southmere Park, South Thamesmead

With the top of the balloon rising to 45 metres above the ground, Fields of EveryWhen is designed as a performance rather than to carry passengers and will be tethered to the ground. The process of setting up, inflating, and deflating the balloon are all part of the theatrical presentation. The artworks will be dramatically revealed as the vast canopy fills with air.

The balloon will fly five times during the summer at different locations. This includes the Thamesmead Festival in Southmere Park on Saturday 20 August.
