Black Culture Collective commission 2022

The Black Culture Collective and Peabody are seeking creative and ambitious proposals to celebrate Thamesmead’s diverse cultures and heritage with the wider community.

Along with its beautiful green spaces, iconic brutalist architecture and growing creative community, Thamesmead boasts the largest West African population in the UK and is a diverse community which has grown and developed over the last five decades, unlike anywhere else in London.

In 2020 a group of local residents started the Black Culture Collective (BCC), an informal group set up with ambitions to become a bridge between individuals, community groups and organisations who wish to share their products, services, advice and information about African and Caribbean culture, history and heritage relating to the wider community. The BCC hopes to increase active engagement, challenge and address issues of representation and positively influence the cultural and creative sector with the local area through information-sharing, education, entertainment and enterprise.

About the commission

There is a total budget of £30,000 which will be used to commission four different projects: two of £5,000 and two of £10,000. Only four projects will be selected for delivery this funding period, two from each of the funding brackets.

The deadline for proposals to be submitted is 12 noon GMT, Monday 4 April 2022.
