Cygnet Square is a new civic square in the centre of Southmere, Peabody’s first major development in South Thamesmead. This new square is home to the NEST - a new community space and library - and offers space for people to meet, sit next to Southmere Lake and enjoy the local landscape.

Cygnet Square events programme

Events company Continental Drifts and pop up talk show Talkaoke have been appointed by Peabody to run a series of events in Cygnet Square to engage residents and invite Thamesmeadians to use and enjoy the new space.

The 11 September event will be held as part of our open house and will include tours of the library and new build apartments, food, music and walking tours of the local areas surrounding Cygnet Square.

Art workshops call out

Alongside the open house we would like to offer attendees two workshops and are welcoming your proposals.

The workshops should be inspired by local Thamesmead architecture, engaging for children as well as adults, and allow participants to take what they've created home. Please note that the open house event will be taking place outside so a gazebo will be provided for the workshops (please make sure that your workshop idea is appropriate for outside).

We are open to creative ideas in any medium and also welcome collaboration and group applications. Please consider the environmental impact and legacy of your submission - for example, could you use environmentally friendly materials and could the final outcome be something that can be used beyond the event?

The budget of up to £600 per workshop should cover all artist fees, production, materials, set-up, workshops, transportation, risk assessments and public liability insurance.

Please submit a brief written description of your idea, alongside a CV detailing your previous work and experience (no more than four pages long) to [email protected].

The deadline for applications is Monday 30 August 2021 at 9am.
