Blue green algae in Southmere Lake

The recent warm weather is causing blue green algae to bloom in Southmere Lake. These natural blooms can sometimes produce toxins which can be harmful to animals and people.

The levels of blue green algae should reduce naturally in the weeks ahead. We have informed the Environment Agency and we will continue to test and monitor the water. To stay safe and well in the meantime:

  • Please don’t swim in the lake
  • Please avoid your skin contacting the water
  • Do not fish at the lake
  • Please keep dogs on leads and away from the lake

You can find out more about blue green algae here.
