Participants got to learn new skills and journey along the canal so that they could view Thamesmead from a new perspective while in the water. The one-hour sessions were designed to suit novices, and people of all ages were invited to join us on the day.

The Kayaking sessions included a safety talk and an introduction to the paddling technique, as well as a journey out on to the canal network, towards the Birchmere Lake/Harrow canal junction and back again.  At the turning point instructors encouraged participants to become more confident on the water – setting challenges and playing games as they paddled along.

A total of 80 people joined us on the day, with some giving some helpful feedback on our proposed plans for canal improvements in and around Butts Wood.
