Students ride the careers carousel

Students from the Harris Garrard Academy in Thamesmead and St Paul’s Academy in Greenwich gained valuable insights into their future career options during a fast-paced event at the Moorings Sociable Club.

The young people were each given a seven-minute timeslot to talk to representatives from
one of the diverse range of employers and industries, before moving on to their next careers meeting.

The rapid succession of speed networking opportunities were part of the Peabody Careers Carousel. The event also included advice on CV writing and other practical support around preparing for the world of work.

Among the 16 organisations attending were community youth organisation Youth Unity, building contractors Ardmore and Mulalley, non-profit construction careers organisation YouthBuild and the London Fire Brigade.

The students were encouraged to ask targeted questions and use critical thinking to make the most of their time with each of the employers. The professionals also shared inspiring stories of their own career journeys.

Kristen Gringeri, Head of Academy at Harris Garrard Academy, said: “Our students were very enthusiastic about the event, and made great contacts to help them obtain work experience opportunities this academic year.”
