Organised by Peabody, Counselling Matters Bexley, Lakeside Health Centre, Greenwich Carers Support and Bexley Carers Support, the event offered advice on the extra support unpaid carers can access and gave insights from guest speakers.
Attendees also had the chance to focus on their own wellbeing with advice on respite activities and the opportunity to participate in a range of different free therapy sessions on the day.
Peabody’s Health and Wellbeing Projects Officer, Khadeja Chowdhury, said: “If you give unpaid help to another person to assist them with their day-to-day life, you are a carer, and you’re entitled to support.
This event was a great way for us to spread that message and promote local carer support services. It was great to see so many people come along, and we hope to welcome more carers to similar events in the future.”
The feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive with one attendee saying: “I often feel lonely being a carer, it’s very isolating. Today’s event has made me so happy.”
Another added: “I’m so glad I came along, I didn’t know there was so much support available!”
Peabody is continuing to work with Bexley Carers Support, Greenwich Carers Support and other partners across Greenwich and Bexley to create more drop-in sessions where carers can connect with others, build social connections, and continue to learn more about the support that is available to them.
