Eight unemployed residents from Thamesmead, Greenwich and Bexley have successfully completed a Level 5 qualification in Financial Services which gives them the skills to become a trader in the financial sector.
The intense five-week course was offered by Peabody, in partnership with the London Borough of Bexley, Job Centre Plus Greenwich and Bexley, and delivered by Divento, a futures trading company based in Tower 42.
The course has been specifically designed to address the skills gaps within the financial services industry. Participants are trained in a live trading environment which gives them valuable hands-on experience as well as an industry recognised qualification.
Michael Springthorpe who completed the course said: “The course was absolutely amazing and the greatest opportunity I’ve ever had or will have. The gratitude I have for Peabody, the Job Centre and Divento cannot be explained. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
“I can absolutely see myself working in the financial sector. My short-term goal was to pass this course, which I have, and then I will do whatever it takes to get a job in trading. It suits my personality to a tee, and within a week it became such a passion that you would think I had wanted to be a trader my whole life.”
Ellis Knowles Economic Inclusion Project officer, Peabody commented: “I am so proud of all of the participants that took part in the course. We want to offer more higher paid job opportunities to residents in Thamesmead as well as address the skills gap across various industries.”
