The Tastes of Thamesmead community cookbook is part of a wider archive project commissioned by Peabody and created by renowned artists Floro Azqueta and Hannah Ringham. The artists worked with residents to showcase the great variety of food heritage in the town with recipes from as far afield as Mexico, Nigeria and Nepal.

At the recent Thamesmead Market local people could collect a copy of the cookbook in exchange for an item of non-perishable food. All donations were then distributed to Thamesmead food banks. We plan to run the scheme again at the Christmas Market scheduled for
December 12th.

Adriana Marques, Peabody’s Head of Culture for Thamesmead, said: “Thamesmead is an incredibly diverse place, attracting people from all over the world. This cookbook not only celebrates that diversity but also gives residents the opportunity to cook some fantastic food at home and in doing so find out a little bit more about Thamesmead’s heritage and their neighbours.”
