Unity Lounge and Bar opens at Sporting Club Thamesmead

An exciting new lounge and bar offering drinks, world food, and activities for local people, has opened for business at Sporting Club Community Centre. Located on Bayliss Avenue in central Thamesmead, it’s a welcome addition to the town’s social scene.

The Unity Lounge and Bar, on the first floor of the sports centre, which is owned and managed by Peabody, aims to offer an inclusive space for everyone to enjoy.

The new venture sees mother-and-son partnership, Hazel C and Taurai at 2inspire Academy CIC, team up with Dala Dala Kitchen – a vibrant food company known for its soulful, multicultural flavours. Hazel and Tauri already known by many people in the Thamesmead community for running vibrant monthly markets at Cygnet Square.

The Unity Lounge and Bar team’s vision is for a space that is welcoming, representative, and full of life. The venue will offer a host of activities – from community events and workshops, to live music, themed nights, and private hire – all shaped by the community it serves. This the includes players, coaches and spectators from Erith Town FC and Sporting Club Thamesmead FC, who regularly use the space.

“We’re introducing a new chapter in community connection with the opening of Unity Lounge and Bar,” explains Hazel. “Our partnership aims to bring warmth, flavour and tasty options to every visit. This new lounge and bar space is more than just a place to eat. It is a locally rooted hub designed to bring the community together through shared experiences, inclusive events, and meaningful connection.”

“We are so pleased to welcome Unity Lounge and Bar to this great venue,” said Claudia Marracci, Peabody’s Community Properties Manager for Thamesmead. “Their team have created a much-needed place for local people to socialise, eat and relax. I’d encourage everyone in the area to come along, see what’s happening and connect with others.”

“Having successfully operated the bar and kitchen for the last four years, we are now looking forward to working with Hazel and her friendly team as they take over the running of the bar and kitchen at Sporting Club Thamesmead,” said Lee Hill, Chair of Sporting Club Thamesmead. “Hazel and her team in the kitchen and behind the bar have done a great job so far, and we look forward to a positive future together. Welcome to club everyone.”

The bar offers local people a place to socialise every weekday from 6pm to 11pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 11pm.
