Apply for grants of up to £3,000 for cultural and community projects

Residents and community groups in Thamesmead are invited to apply for grants of up to £3,000 to deliver cultural or community projects that benefit local people.

The Thamesmead Community Fund is now open and accepting applications for its latest round of grants. The fund – managed by the London Community Foundation for Peabody –  has already invested more than £450,000 in events and activities that improve life for the town’s residents.

“Many local organisations and residents have used a grant from the Thamesmead Community Fund as a springboard to achieve remarkable things,” said Gez Kellaghan, Peabody’s Community Investment Manager. “We're excited to see what wonderful ideas come from the community in this new round of funding."

Peabody finances the Thamesmead Community Fund. Half of the money comes from the Peabody Community Foundation, while the other half comes from income generated when Thamesmead is used as a location for film and TV shoots.

Lisa Drew, Senior Cultural Programme Manager at Peabody, added: “Thamesmead Community Fund is all about supporting creativity, culture and connection across communities. Through it, we’re enabling people to feel that Thamesmead is a place for them. With money from professional location shoots flowing into brilliant local initiatives, we’re helping even more great ideas take root.”

A panel of local people works with Peabody to award funds. Projects that have previously received support include The Atrium Tea Room, Thamesmead Times: Revisited, Thamesmead Life Drawing, Thamesmead African Film Club and Lakeview Court Healthy Cookery Classes.

To be considered a Thamesmead Community Fund grant, a project must do at least one of the following:

  • Increase arts and cultural activity
  • Support educational outcomes for a group
  • Bring the community together
  • Improve local health and wellbeing
  • Encourage community use of local outdoor spaces
  • Strengthen children and family relationships
  • Help people develop new skills
  • Provide services or activities for older people
  • Bring people together through nature or gardening
  • Provide opportunities to enjoy the natural environment
  • Increase biodiversity in Thamesmead

To find out more, join a live applications Q&A session on Thursday 30 April at 5.30pm.

The deadline for applications is 12noon on Thursday 21 May 2026.
