Their ideas will help Peabody develop repair and reuse services, many of which will be carried out by volunteer fixers.
Ravneet Singh, from Peabody’s Community Investment Team, explained: “We want to explore how residents can get more value from their items, cut down on unnecessary spending and stop items with life left in them from going to landfill.
“Ideas could range from getting help with repairing small electrical appliances, to upcycling a piece of furniture or having a clothes swap event. At this stage, we want residents to share their thoughts on services that would be useful for them.
“We’re also looking for volunteer fixers who can put their skills to good use to help the community and the planet at the same time.”
The project is being funded by Peabody’s partner, Lovell, who are developing the second phase of new homes in South Thamesmead. They have committed to help improve lives for local people while working in the town.
