Love Soup Cafe scoops civic award

Volunteers serving free, delicious food to their neighbours in West Thamesmead have picked up an award for their tireless work.

Love Soup Cafe, based at Broadwater Hub in Goosander Way, was crowned as the winner in the community category at the Royal Borough of Greenwich Civic Awards on Friday evening.

The awards recognise unsung heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to the social, economic or physical wellbeing of the local community.

Nana Sapomaa Adjei, from Love Soup Cafe, said: “We always say we have something very special at Love Soup Cafe, so we’re delighted to have that recognised by this award.

“Feeding people and building a little community makes them happy – and doing it makes us happy too.”

Nana and her fellow volunteers were presented with their award at a ceremony in Woolwich Town Hall.

Love Soup Cafe offers free meals and activities to the local community between 12pm and 5pm every Thursday in term time.
