Residents with a love for the outdoors can look forward to taking part in new outdoor activities across South Thamesmead’s green spaces and Southmere Lake. The activities follow the recent completion of the £4.48m South Thamesmead Garden Estate programme – where more than three hectares of green space along a green chain walk along Abbey Way has been transformed. Improvements, codesigned by a dedicated group of local residents, have created greener, more inviting places where local people can get closer to nature. The upcoming activity programme, which is supported by Peabody, is being delivered by Groundwork and North West Kent County Partnership.
These outdoor events are being complemented by indoor activities run at two other popular venues in Thamesmead: the Camouflage Café at the Moorings Sociable Club, and the recently opened Unity Lounge and Bar at Sporting Club Thamesmead.
Key events include:

Notes to editors:
The improvements to the South Thamesmead Garden Estate have been shaped by feedback from local people about what matters most to them. Peabody has invested £4.48m to transform underused areas in and around the South Thamesmead Garden Estate creating spaces that bring residents closer to nature. Around Abbey Way, new pathways, planting, seating and cooking areas are now in place. A new pedestrian route at Maran Way, better lighting on walkways, and upgrades to the popular ball court, The Cage on Wolvercote Road are making a difference. Alongside improvements to the existing playground, the works are helping make South Thamesmead greener, safer and more inviting for everyone.
