October is Black History Month, an opportunity to recognise the great influence, contribution and achievements of those from the Black, Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) community.
The Thamesmead BAME Network is hosting a series of activities to celebrate the month including: a health day; cooking workshops; arts classes; African drumming and more. Contact Rachel Akindele at [email protected] or 07951993234 to find out more.
Global Fusion Arts is also holding a series of events and activities around the borough for Black History Month, including free children's workshops.
On Saturday, 12 October and Saturday, 19 October from 11am - 2pm at Thamesmere Library on Thamesmere Drive they’ll be wooden label making with African designs, African mask and flag making for youngsters.
While on Wednesday, 23 October from 1pm - 3pm at The Link on Bazalgette Way the free workshops will also include African drumming, African dance and face painting. Visit www.globalfusionarts.co.uk for further details.
Dynamix Dance is staging its annual Black History Month event on Thursday, 24 October from 2pm to 8pm at The Link on Bazalgette Way with food tasting, stalls, dancing, singing, spoken word and a fashion show.
