Supacell creator Rapman to deliver Thamesmead talk

Filmmaker, writer and rapper Rapman is set to share his story with Thamesmead residents during a special event at The Nest next Wednesday 27 May.

The south-east Londoner is best-known for his YouTube series Shiro's Story, feature film Blue Story and hit Netflix series Supacell, which was filmed in Thamesmead.

Rapman – Andrew Onwubolu MBE – will tell residents about his life and his path into filmmaking, as well as his experience of filming Supacell in Thamesmead.

He will be joined at the community evening by director Koby Adom, who has worked on Noughts + Crosses, Dreaming Whilst Black and Supacell.

The pair will share behind-the-scenes insights from the production, reflect on working within the local community and discuss the importance of place, people, and collaboration in filmmaking.

Audience members will also have the opportunity to put their questions to Rapman and Koby during the evening.

Lisa Drew, Peabody’s Senior Cultural Programme Manager in Thamesmead, said: “This event is an opportunity for local people to come together, hear about the experience of filming in their neighbourhood and learn how the area became part of the storytelling process on screen.

“We look forward to welcoming residents for an engaging and informal evening.”

The event is free to attend but is ticketed due to limited capacity. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
