The two-day Set Ready course is being run by FilmFixer, which manage filming in Thamesmead on behalf of Peabody. Participants will develop the skills needed to work as location marshals, an entry-level paid position on film and TV sets.
“This free training programme supports the next generation of screen production talent,” said Oliver Guthrie, FilmFixer’s Film Service Manager. “The two-day training course provides an opportunity to learn crucial skills for working on film and TV shoots.”
“We'd always welcome applications from Thamesmead residents wishing to get more involved with filming,” added Oliver.
The course is open to both Bexley and Greenwich residents. It takes place at Walworth Town Hall between 10am and 4pm on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 May.
“Once residents have finished the Set Ready course, they will be able to sign up to be on Filmfixer’s list,” explained Lisa Draw, Peabody’s Senior Cultural Programme Manager in Thamesmead. “This can open up opportunities to join film crews all over London, including here in Thamesmead.”
Black Ops, The Informer, Supacell, Culprits, The Nest, Black Mirror, Sky’s Bulletproof and Long Lost Family are some of the productions to have been filmed in Thamesmead in recent years.
Income from film and TV production companies for using Thamesmead as a shoot location goes straight into the Thamesmead Community Fund. This money is then awarded as small grants to local community and cultural projects to benefit local communities. A panel of local people decides which projects should get support.
