Adam, one of the Bow Arts artists living in the town, is creating a doorway sculpture from three-metre lengths of bamboo. Festivalgoers will be able to listen to an accompanying soundscape and audio guide featuring recordings from around the town.
Along with his own recordings, Adam is asking fellow residents to share sounds to be included in the piece.
“It could be checkout bleeps in the supermarket, the wheels of the trolleys, horses neighing in a field, a family of ducks quacking on the lake, or even something a bit more abstract,” explained Adam.
He added: “I want to take us on a sensory journey through Thamesmead in sound.”
Adam’s sculpture will be unveiled between the Park Stage and Slug Stage (formerly known as Wanderlust Hill) on festival day, Saturday 8 August.

Get creative at the festival
Adam’s sculpture is part of a packed creative programme at Thamesmead Festival. There will also be flag-making, Chinese calligraphy, Bauhaus painting and crafting workshops, while artist Curtis Donovan will create an artwork inspired by Thamesmead's nature during the festival.
