On a lovely sunny day in September, perfect conditions for running, 90 runners set off from Crossway Park as part of the 4th annual Thamesmead fun run.
The 5km run began with a lap of the park and then onto Southmere Park and towards Lesnes Abbey. After a quick water stop at Lesnes Heath, the runners returned to Crossway Park and crossed the finish line.
Lawrence Robinson from Plumstead Running Club was first across the line with an impressive time of 19 minutes 12 seconds. He was closely followed by his team mate Russell Buchanan a second later.
The weather warmed up throughout the day and everyone enjoyed the fun run, especially the 13 children who took part in the 1km run around Crossway Park.
Thank you to Mayor Christine May from the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the London Borough of Bexley, Mayor Brian Bishop, for helping to hand out the medals and special prizes to the competitors and for cheering them all on.
Special thanks to all of our volunteers from the local community. You help to put the ‘fun’ into the fun run and it wouldn't be the same without your dedication and support.
And of cause thank you to all our runners! We look forward to seeing you again next year for our 5th annual Thamesmead fun run!
