Do you like working with animals? Are you looking for an opportunity to work on an exciting project in Thamesmead?
If the answer is yes, then we may have the perfect opportunity for you.
As part of the LIFT festival 2018, we will be hosting ‘Fly By Night’ from the 20 to 23 June 2018. The event pays homage to some of the First World War’s unsung heroes: the military pigeons that played crucial roles delivering messages between distant personnel.
Fly By Night involves a large flock of trained pigeons kept in specially made bird coops on the golf course in Thamesmead. At dusk each night the call of a whistle will be a signal for the trained pigeons to emerge from their coops and soar, swoop and glide through the sky, with the leg bands that once carried vital messages during the war now replaced by tiny LED lights.
To make this project happen we need a group of enthusiastic people who would like to support the team with training as well as the evening performances of Fly by Night.
We are looking for Pigeon Training Assistant Volunteers to work closely with the birds for 6 weeks, 2-5 evenings a week 6:30-10:30pm, starting on 13 May 2018. To find out more please see the full role description.
We are also looking for Pigeon Custodians to work closely with the Pigeons everyday for 11 weeks. To find out more please see the full role description.
