Thamesmead's History
We've already collected thousands of memories, photos, documents and artefacts from local people; but we want to continue to grow the archive for future generations. We're looking for more contributions from people living in the area so if you have a story to tell us or lovely pictures of Thamesmead through the ages, please email Cultural Programme Manager, Lisa Drew at: [email protected]

If you’d like to explore our history, you can visit the Layers on London website; which will give you free access to historic maps of Thamesmead as well as some of the stories that we have contributed. All you have to do is click on 'explore the map' and type in Thamesmead.

Volunteering with the Thamesmead Community Archive
With so much material already in our archive, we're looking for volunteers; with a passion for history and giving back to the community; to come forward to help us with our community archive. In exchange for volunteering your time you will have the opportunity to meet new people; gain news skills; and learn more about Thamesmead. If you'd like to get an idea of what type of things you could be collecting whilst volunteering with us follow our Flashback Friday campaign on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. If you're interested in volunteering with us, please email Volunteering Development Partner, Jacqueline Thomas-Fasuyi at [email protected]

Thamesmead Community Archive Showcase
As part of our community archive, we also hold exhibitions that showcase the items that we have collected or that link to the history of Thamesmead. You can keep up to date with what we're doing by visiting our 'What's on Page'; here.

Thamesmead Arts and Culture Office (TACO!) is not only a gallery and bookshop, it's also where Radio Thamesmead (RTM.FM) is broadcasted from. With National Lottery Heritage Funding, RTM.FM, is run as a community radio station providing a platform for local people and artists to receive training to broadcast their own content. RTM is currently taking content proposals, so if you have a good idea for a radio show, please click here. The bookshop provides a platform for independent publications, zines, vinyls and artist materials to be showcased.
