Budgie: a short film set in Thamesmead
But it’s also developing a distinct and vibrant cultural identity in its own right, and has a vast amount of homegrown talent coursing through it too.
Over the coming years, we’ll be embedding culture and creativity at the heart of Thamesmead’s transformation, giving emerging local artists a platform and contributing to the vitality of the area.
Culture and creativity are vital parts of any community, channelling self-expression, improving local image and helping to carve out a unique sense of pride and identity for a town.
But above all, it brings people together. Whether it’s live music, performance art, film-making or dance, we know that Thamesmead’s vibrant culture programme will inspire anyone who lives, visits and works here.
In 2017 we published the first ever Thamesmead Culture Guide. Covering key places and spaces, local creative and businesses, groups and clubs, you'll get a real insight into the artistic offer in Thamesmead and the people behind it, including filmmakers, artists, designers, curators and poets, who all call Thamesmead their home.
We'll be celebrating Thamesmead's milestone with a programme of events, activities and artistic commissions throughout 2018. We'll be working with residents and a whole host of local and well known arts organisations and individuals. Attend the Thamesmead Culture Forum to find out more.
